Community newsletters like this one work because they fill in the gaps that bigger papers don't have room for, covering the small stuff that actually affects daily life. Getting that same kind of reliable coverage from a regional paper is a different story, and dialing the news and advance phone number after a delivery gap dragged on for weeks made it clear how much that reliability actually matters once you're used to a publication that never misses a beat. Local newsletters and regional papers end up serving the same purpose, just at very different scales of reliability.
